About us – dogracingnz.com

Greyhound racing and the wider betting market in New Zealand are explained here: how odds convert to probability, how the tote pays a dividend where fixed odds pay a set price, and what a promotion requires. Bets are not taken, tips are not sold, and no return is promised, since a certain winner does not exist.

Sources on legal status

New Zealand keeps no register of licensed bookmakers, since a single provider is lawful. TAB NZ, trading as TAB and Betcha, has been the sole provider of racing and sports betting to people in New Zealand since 28 June 2025. Statements on this rest on the Department of Internal Affairs, the Racing Industry Act 2020 and the Racing Industry Amendment Act 2025. A bookmaker based overseas has no licence here, and the Department says an overseas company offering these bets is breaking the law; the same sources place that liability on the operator, not the punter. A ranking position has never been a licence.

Working with sources on racing

Facts about the provider come from its terms, help pages and footers. Legal facts come from statute text and public bodies. Greyhound racing is closing in stages from 1 August 2026, so statements about it are dated. Odds and offers move fast, and a figure is given with the time and place it applied; where sources end, words are used, never an invented number.

Readers

Adults in New Zealand are addressed, because betting with TAB NZ requires age 18. Legal or tax advice is not offered. Betting that has grown beyond what was planned can be raised with the Gambling Helpline or Safer Gambling Aotearoa.
